A visit to prize draw winner - Iwade School
On Tuesday 13 December we dusted the snow from our vans to visit competition winners Bourne Alliance Multi Academy Trust – Iwade School – and deliver their new compost bin!
Iwade Primary School is one of four Sittingbourne-based schools which now form Bourne Alliance Multi Academy Trust, alongside nearby Bobbing Village School, Aspire and Grove Park. The Academy prides itself on its team-based and collaborative approach both inside and outside of the classroom, and Head of School Katrine Stewart is well ahead of the curve with her impressive Mr Tom Forest School.
Named after beloved late groundsman Mr Tom, the forest school is an immersive play space for children to explore and create together. With a fully stocked mud kitchen, colourful outdoor classroom and incredible campfire, students use the forest school to learn about nature and the environment, including which plants, nuts and trees are safe to touch, pick and even eat.
Landscape Services Director Phil Morgan was joined by Maidstone operational team members Robin and Dave to deliver the brand-new compost bin, which was awarded to the school as a prize at this year’s Education People Show event.
The new compost bin is now in place, sitting alongside the school’s unique pond area – home to the endangered Great Crested Newt – and will be an excellent addition to Iwade School’s outdoor learning, giving children the opportunity to understand more about reducing waste and building an environmentally friendly future.
A big thank you to Katrine for showing us around the grounds of the school. We look forward to catching up with them again soon!
