• Does the pitch take a while to drain after rainfall?

• Is there debris of any kind preventing healthy growth?

Flowerbeds and Planting Areas

Spring preparation helps planting areas recover from winter stress and sets them up for strong growing season. 

• Do the beds have any dead growth, fallen leaves or litter?
• Do annual plants need clearing, ready for fresh replanting?
• Is mulch needed to retain moisture and improve the soil for replants?
• Are shrubs correctly pruned to encourage healthy new growth?
• Are your planting areas edged and neatly define, for both safety and aesthetics?

Pathways, Car Parks, and Hard Landscaping

With more events and visitors on your grounds, clear access and tidy presentation become increasingly important for both safety and reputation.

• Are there cracks, potholes or trip hazards left from the freeze/thaw cycle damage of winter?
• Are surfaces clear of debris or moss?
• Are drains clear and flowing correctly?
• Are kerbs and edge intact and safe?
• Are car parks and walkways clearly presented for users?

Trees

Harsh weather during the winter period can affect tree stability, branch structure and root health. This makes tree inspections even more important, which can help identify risks before they develop into safety hazards. Check your trees and forested areas for: 

• Are there any broken, hanging or dead branches?
• Are trees showing signs of unstable movement?
• Are root zones overly compact?
• Have you recently had your trees inspected following high winds?

Compliance

Beyond appearance, spring maintenance supports your wider duty of care responsibilities in operating your site.

• Are hazards noted and scheduled for remedial works?
• Are outdoor spaces safe for pupils, staff, visitors and the public?
• Are sports surfaces playable and suitable for use?
• Are drainage solutions compliant and suitable following bad weather?
