Introducing the new Trimax Pegasus S5 493 to our fleet

Last month, the team were invited to our supplier Lister Wilder's headquarters in Ashford for in-person training, before leaving the yard with three further units to join our existing fleet.

Whilst the BST was an excellent customer service and administrative tool, we felt it could be bigger; better. So, we began looking at what changes we could make which would give our customers and colleagues the best possible experience with us, to deliver that little bit extra that makes working with Landscape Services the unbeatable choice.

The Pegasus S5 493 unit is smaller than its predecessor, the Toro TM7490, making it nimbler for hard-to-mow areas. This is a critical piece of equipment for a business like ours and be pulled with ease behind our industry leading tractors in larger open spaces. The attachment is easy to control and manoeuvre from both inside and outside of the cab, and requires only one hand to operate, making for a smoother transition between 'drive' and 'cut'.

The Trimax Pegasus S4 493 stands out with its innovative Multi-Lift System (MLS), which includes Independent Lift, QuikLift, BiLift, and Transport Mode options. These functions provide operators with complete control over the mowing attachment, enhancing both manoeuvrability and the quality of the cut.

Given the variety of components and adjustments offered by the MLS, maintaining the equipment and managing its complexities require a skilled operator. Trimax representative Adrian led a comprehensive training session, covering essential topics such as detailed operator maintenance, full system controls, and the advanced electronic Multi-Lift System.

Why Pegasus?

One of our primary considerations when upgrading our gang (industry term for tractor trailed mowers as they have several cylinders cutting at the same time, hence 'gang' of cutters) units was ensuring that the new equipment could seamlessly support our transition from cylinder gangs to rotary mowing.

Though cylinder mowers were once industry favourites for their exceptional cut, their popularity has declined over time due to labour-intensive, costly and time-consuming maintenance required for multiple mowing parts. What used to require daily maintenance with the cylinders can now be achieved at 40-hour intervals between services with the Pegasus - without compromising on quality or efficiency. In fact, the reduced maintenance schedule means better productivity and workflows.

Cylinder mowers rely on rotating cylindrical blades, which demand dry, stable weather conditions to deliver a precise cut. The Trimax Pegasus, equipped with spinning rotary blades that hover above the grass at the set cutting height, offers greater durability compared to cylinder mowers. Blades are less likely to receive damage from obstacles commonly found in fields, such as rocks, twigs and general debris, and perform better in a wider variety of weather conditions. Both machine types provide outstanding results in the right environment and we are delighted to be able to offer both in our mixed fleet to ensure we deliver exceptional outcomes for our customer's needs.

What's more, rotary offers a faster mowing speed than cylinder, due to the rotation and width of the blades allowing the operator to cover more ground in less time. With the Pegasus unit our staff can ensure a clean cut with precise line patterns on any field it mows.

After seeing these results on some of our larger sites, some customers have requested a switch to rotary on their own contracts; safe to say they're quickly becoming a customer favourite!

A huge thank you to Lister Wilder for inviting us and hosting such a fantastic training session, and a special shoutout to Trimax for showing us the ropes on our new kit!
