We attended the Green School Awards event 2023!

On Thursday 23rd November, Landscape Services headed over to Ashford in Kent for the annual Green School Awards event.

The Green School Awards is a very special event hosted by Social Enterprise Kent which is the culmination of many months of nominations from schools to recognise and celebrate the positive action students and schools are taking for our planet! Events like these championed by the SEK team are aimed to support young people and education in our Kent communities.

Being sponsors of this fantastic event for the third year now, the team made their way over to watch the showcasing of each nominated initiative. Seeing first hand the efforts of this year’s 25 winning schools, the overall awards included; Kent Recycling Award, Kent Nature Conservation Award, Kent Environment and Sustainability Award and many others!

Meeting some fantastic schools and inspiring students, the day consisted of;

  • ‘Show and Share’ – where we took a walk around the exhibitions of wonderful students who presented the eco initiatives they’ve been working on. These included; Eco Refill Systems, Bee Farms and Forest Schools.
  • A performance from the Simon Langton Girls' Grammar School Choir who performed their ‘Heroes and Dreamers’ number, an inspiring recital for their project highlighting the issues of biodiversity loss.
  • A presentation hosted by KMFM’s, Nicola Everett who led us through the showcasing of each school’s amazing eco creativities.
  • Guest speaker, Kate Strong who gave an encouraging talk about the work she does to further sustainable practices amongst communities across the country through her ‘climate cycle’ where she travelled 3,000 miles on a bamboo bike to inspire the nation into action around climate change.

It was great to see such creativity and innovation from students dedicated to building a sustainable future, and as sponsors presenting the award for ‘Secondary School Trailblazer’ we’d like to give special shoutout to the winning nominee… Northfleet Technology College!

As part of an ethical entrepreneurship project, NorthFleet Technology College have adopted beehives within their apiary areas where they manage and monitor bee populations through the use of dedicated technology. The money created from honey sales will then be used to develop local environmental and sustainability projects.

Huge congratulations to all nominees, and SEK for hosting another brilliant event, we look forward to seeing how these ideas can further inspire others to adopt and develop their own projects!

Here’s some pictures from the day.
