Grounds Maintenance

Commercial Grass Cutting and Mowing.

Cutting your grass does not only serve an aesthetic purpose; More importantly, regular mowing can greatly improve health and safety conditions, and minimise the amount of long-term maintenance your open space needs in the future.

For example, frequent cuts will help your grass grow thicker, healthier and become more hardwearing and resilient. Regular maintenance can discourage weeds from growing, whilst also minimising the chance of slips or trips – particularly over hidden objects on the ground.

But maintaining a regular commercial grass cutting schedule doesn’t have to be a chore. Our experienced grounds maintenance teams operate a large catalogue of expert equipment to provide commercial lawn and grass mowing services on behalf of our customers. We have an extensive fleet of tractor-mounted or trailer mowers across our depot bases which allow us to offer a cost- and time-effective alternative to mowing by hand, as well as top-of-the range ride-on mowers and hand operated equipment for when most efficient.

From verges and roundabouts to fields and acreage, we have the ability and skill to maintain your green spaces no matter the size, gradient, or location. Our services extend to grass renovation and reseeding, sports pitch and fine turf management, weeding, and aeration or scarification as required. Contact our team to find out more.

Expert commercial grass cutters

Landscape Services has been providing commercial grass and turf cutting services to our customers for over 80 years. We have an extensive grounds maintenance operational team who specialise in the care and renovation of outdoor open spaces, from fields and verges to sports grounds and airfields.

We work with companies and organisations across the board – including educational, local authority, government, and agricultural sectors – to manage and maintain, renovate and reseed. To help us achieve this, Landscape Services own or lease over 1000 pieces of quality, top-of-the-range equipment, including a fleet of New Holland Tractors. We are also proud to be one of few grounds maintenance companies to offer gang mowing and verti-draining as a service, using equipment owned and maintained by Landscape Services.

For smaller or unique mowing works, such as cemeteries and roundabouts, we operate several petrol, electric and hybrid-powered ride along, standing and push mower machines. In 2022 we also introduced our first hybrid remote-controlled ‘robomower’ mulching machine, which allows us to cut thickets, brambles and banks much quicker, much safer and with less man-power.

Landscape Services grass cutting services

Grass or lawn maintenance is an important consideration for anyone looking to manage a large, commercial open space. It works best when used alongside some of our additional services – including pest control and litter picking - to renovate and maintain your green spaces and keep your visitors safe.

There are many different factors which work together to achieve successful and aesthetic grass cutting results;

Mowing is usually undertaken with a petrol or electric lawnmower not dissimilar to those you would use in your back garden. When it comes to commercial grass cutting however, the ‘one size fits all’ approach can greatly impact the efficiency and quality of the result, which is why we invest heavily into our fleet of mowers, ride along mowers and New Holland Tractors to be able to offer our customers the best solution for their open space.

Mulching is where grass is cut and the cuttings left on top of the grass. By doing this the cut grass reabsorbs nutrients into the ground as it decomposes, giving you a healthier, lusher lawn. Mulching is also a simple weed repellent and protects your grass from overly warm days and cold nights.

Cut and collect is the opposite of mulching, where grass is collected as it’s cut for a cleaner overall finish. Whilst more aesthetic in the results, cut and collect can be difficult to achieve depending on the size of your green area, and as such is usually an additional cost factor.

Verti draining is a unique service specifically undertaken to ensure your grassed area is in the best condition for healthy, even and thick growth. Verti-drain equipment uses tines which lift the soil and reduce compaction. This allows water to drain properly and for air to reach the grass roots. Other benefits include more cushioned soil and less thatch growth above ground.

Repurposing land is a great option for a school or organisation which has land they are not currently using due to it being overgrown or uneven, or for land which is being used for something else – whether it’s currently paved, being used as a sports field or has been waterlogged.

Sports field renovation will help you to get your sports pitches back to top playing quality in time for the next season, or to repurpose land for the next seasonal sport – from football to rugby, for example.

Weed control and spraying will keep your green space clear of weeds and moss. Weeds will compete with your plants or grass for nutrients, light and water which can lead to patches or weakened areas of grass.

The importance of cutting grass throughout the year

We at Landscape Services believe there is no ‘best time’ to cut your grass. Whilst some months will certainly see more growth than others (usually March to October), variations in weather conditions and temperature can see these dates change year-on-year; different grass types can also alter the number of cuts you may require and when, as well as what you are using your open space for.

Instead, we work with our customers to develop semi-flexible commercial mowing schedules which can be altered to suit the season and the growing of the grass – not to mention any events you are hosting. We know through our years of experience that some months may require twice as many cuts where others may not need any; our annual maintenance schedules are built around a set number of cuts needed to maintain your lawn, divided across the year and managed on a monthly basis. By managing our customer’s sites this way we can ensure we are offering the most cost-effective solution, put an end to cuts which are not needed and work flexibly around the needs and requirements of the customer.
